SUMMARY:Declaration of Independence 250th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Please remember that on 2 Jul 1776 the  Declaration of Independence was approved in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. \nOn July 2\, South Carolina reversed its position and voted for independence. In the Pennsylvania delegation\, Dickinson and Robert Morris abstained\, allowing the delegation to vote three-to-two in favor of independence. The tie in the Delaware delegation was broken by the timely arrival of Caesar Rodney\, who voted for independence. The New York delegation abstained once again since they were still not authorized to vote for independence\, although they were allowed to do so a week later by the New York Provincial Congress. The resolution of independence was adopted with twelve affirmative votes and one abstention\, and the colonies formally severed political ties with Great Britain.[67] John Adams wrote to his wife on the following day and predicted that July 2 would become a great American holiday. He thought that the vote for independence would be commemorated; he did not foresee that Americans would instead celebrate Independence Day on the date when the announcement of that act was finalized. \n

SUMMARY:Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Liberty Bell Ringing
DESCRIPTION:The general public\, all BBP members\, and BBP Color Guard are encouraged to attend. \nIn 1950 the U.S. Department of the Treasury commissioned Liberty Bell replicas as promotional tools for a Savings Bond drive and 57 Bells were produced. They were provided to each state\, some of the territories\, France and Japan.  Nevada’s Bell is housed at the State Museum in Carson City and each 4th of July the Battle Born Chapter of the SAR reads the Deceleration of Independence and rings the bell 13 times. Once for each of the colonies that fought for freedom from Britain. \nAfter the ringing for the colonies the public is encouraged to ring it. Many ringing it for one of their colonial patriots\, for family military members\, or for past family members who were especially  patriotic. \nSee this Liberty Bell Replica site for locations and more history. \n  \n  \n  \n
